Biomass
Gasification Market Overview
The global biomass gasification market is estimated to
expand at 8.50% CAGR during the forecast period. Biomass gasification refers to
thermo-chemical conversion of biomass into a combustible gas (also known as
producer gas) through a partial combustion route with air supply restricted to
less than which is theoretically required for full combustion. A gasifier
system consists of a reactor and a cooling and cleaning train. Gas is generated
in reactor and cooling and cleaning train helps to cool and clean the gas. The
types of gasifiers include dense phase reactors and lean phase reactors. Dense
phase reactors include updraft, downdraft, and cross-draft. Lean phase reactors
include fluidized bed and entrained-flow.
The biomass gasification technology is suitable for small scale and
decentralized applications, typically with capacities smaller than a megawatt.

Industry
Highlights
The growing demand for biomass gasification is
attributed to government’s support through various policies and regulations,
abundant availability of biomass, rising environmental concerns, and increasing
green-house gas emissions. Due to all these factors countries are turning
towards environment friendly and economical sources of electricity generation.
The government’s in various countries is promoting the use of electricity
generation through biomass fuels such as wood chips, cotton stalks, rice husk,
arhar stalks, and other agriculture residues. For instance, in India, Ministry
of New Renewable Energy (MENRE) has set up biomass gasifier programmes which
includes distributed/off-grid power generation for rural areas, captive power
generation applications in rice mills and other industries, and tail end grid
connected power projects up to 2 MW capacities. All these factors are expected
to drive the global biomass gasification market. Asia-Pacific and North America
are expected to witness a strong growth for biomass gasification as there is
abundant amount of biomass fuel available in these regions.

Segmental
Overview
The market for biomass gasification is segmented based
on fuel as wood, animal waste, and others. The wood segment dominates the
biomass gasification market because of huge availability of wood as a fuel
globally. Wood and wood waste are used to generate electricity. Wood accounts
for 44% of biomass energy. Most of the electricity is used by industries making
the waste. For instance, saw mills and paper mills use most of their waste
products to generate electricity and steam for their use. Moreover, wood is a
renewable resource offering sustainable and dependable supply and produces 90%
less carbon dioxide emissions compared to fossil fuel. All these factors are
expected to drive the global gasification market in wood segment.
Prominent
Players
The key players of the global Biomass Gasification
market are Air Liquide, Thyssenkrupp AG, Synthesis Energy Systems Inc.,
